This is another altered text project I started some time ago and uncovered again recently. This one has a very different feel to ‘Making It Up’. I have added a new spread this week.
This is how it looks so far:
Cover:
Inside Cover:
It reads: “the strange children shall be afraid out of their prisons”
Page 1:
Text reads:
“violate the private hideaway
unfortunately from the beginning
she was just there
without anyone
solitary girl
some accident
leaving
hanging
hunching
inconspicuous pale shadow”
“he
scornful
dismissive
silent”
Page 2:
Text reads:
“escaping was all she really wanted to do
reality was worse
in every way victim”
Pages 3 and 4:
Text reads:
“a lifetime echo of pain
she wanted the subject said
now frantic she was near to the end”
“Not just his prize
a frightening ordeal
she had been terrified and vulnerable
eyes enormous with shock”
“He the bastard
he never caught
he persisted”
“He was not used to resistance
He
obsessed
mad
inflamed”

So powerful–I don’t know whether to shudder or weep.

I’m with Barbara – it makes me want to shudder & weep both – very impactful, very brave.
As always, I love your use of color & shape & the minimalist text – really adds to the “punch”…

just out of curiosity what was the title of the original book? You manage to tell an aweful (the original meaning of the word) tale with your choice of words

Mmm very striking art and great chosen texts. Must go and dig out my ‘old’ uncompleted alt text projects, thanks for the inspiration…
